Fall is here, and the weather that comes with it is beginning to creep through.  With the fall comes fall clothing – one of my favorite times of year.  Tweeds, flannels, heavy cottons, etc.  Gotta love it!  The fall tends to bring out some bold patterns in the process.  There doesn’t seem to be a better time to bring out a PoW suit or a bold checked sportcoat.  I teamed up with online MTM retailer Morgan Coda to create this subtlety bold double breasted jacket to really capture the season.

The Wider the Better

The Wider the Better

Morgan Coda, for those unfamiliar, is online MTM company that is one of the best I have experienced.  Construction is absolutely amazing, and they did an extraordinary job with the details.  I dealt exclusively with Tom Bledsoe, and he was as attentive as they come.  I’ve noticed a huge difference in my commissions when you can talk to someone over the phone about all the details of the jacket.  It makes the experience more personable and ultimately end up with a better result.  It didn’t hurt that these guys are on top of their game.  There is much talk about the attempts of MTM blurring the lines of bespoke, and I am no expert in bespoke tailoring, but I can say with some convincing that Morgan Coda is helping that cause.  Very impressed with the brand and the overall outcome of the jacket.

Looking at the details, I went with a double breasted jacket with a subtle red over-check that is awesome.  The standard details that come with a MC jacket also show no signs of skimping: bemberg lining, crushed horn buttons, vent strap, suit-fabric sweat shields, as well as pick stitching and functional cuffs.  The additional accommodations that they were able to add for me were awesome: spalla camicia shoulder (called the Neapolitan shoulder) and a widened lapel.  The shoulder adjustment was huge for me, and I was very impressed with the execution.

The check of the jacket screams autumn to me (even though this fabric was part of the previous season).  It perfectly compliments the season, and I know it will be a great addition to the rotation.  These shots were taken on a warmer day, but it shows how versatile this jacket can be by pairing it with a pair of light gray cotton trousers from Incotex and navy suede loafers from Jay Butler.  With a patterned jacket, and as a personal principal, always keep the tie simple and the shirt even more so – here with a pale blue Eton shirt and simple SuitSupply tie.

On a side note, this post is hopefully the beginning of higher quality original imagery and a closer look of my element.  Here’s to the turning of the page (and the season).
